Your Style Expressed: At Home (Art & Decor)

Painting & Home Decor are a Passion for this California Mom

We (Estilo Mum's), have our talents. It's my mission to inspire by sharing the different ways these stylish moms find to express their personal style in my monthly feature, "Your Style Expressed." Style is something personal, that we shape throughout the years and evolves through different venues of expression. Whether it be on the street  (personal style), at home (art & decor) or in business. These women are very talented!

And Curiously enough, are hitting their stride after having become mothers.

This West Coast mom certainly has a good eye and a talent for painting. She started during her son's toddler years and has found expressing herself through art and home decor to be her best stress release. A stay-at-home mom, painting has given her an outlet to explore her entrepreneurial side.

Selling her canvas paintings and growing the number of pieces for sale is a project she's excited to undertake.

The paintings you see on the wall are just a sample of the 3D modern style she prefers. The paintings are textured and materials such as twine and coiled string are a few of the items she incorporates into the paintings.

Seeing them up close for the first time, I thought she had purchased them in an art store. The work is beautifully finished and signed of course.

If you are interested in purchasing or inquiring for a price on the pictured paintings, email tiene.estilo@gmail.com.

Wait! Where'd you get those shoes?

Steve Madden Tarnney Studded Boot

I was in Ikea last weekend with the family looking for more storage to hide away my kids toys when I saw the most stylish mom I've seen in a long time (with baby strapped onto herself) walk by with the most incredible outfit and shoes.

She inspired me. God if she can wear those tight black spandex, like the ones Sandy wore in Grease (the movie), with THOSE shoes, why can't I? She looked amazing.

I wanted to stop and say hello and ask where she got her shoes, but I kept losing her in the hustle & bustle of Ikea.

Finally, fait stepped in and we were off to the check-out lane at the same time. Naturally, I followed behind and took a close-up picture of her shoes. I would have loved to have showed the entire outfit but baby was in tow and I respect a mother's privacy.

Also love them in Grey

My style runs close to Gwen Stephani's, a bit punk and quirky when I'm mixing and matching outfits. I actually saw the Tarnney Studded Boot at the Steve Madden store for $145.00

They don't look cheap and yes, I tried them on. They're comfortable.

Dressing Up On A Sick Day

Today's outfit
Split59 Active wear Pullover Top
Target Red Tang Top
 Romeo & Juliet Riding Leggings
ASH Star Studded Sequin Smoking Slipper
Henri Bendel Crossover bag
Sick as a dog, I rolled out of bed this morning. It's a school day. That means driving my oldest to school and music class for my youngest, followed by a visit to the park. As all moms know, a sick mom doesn't get a sick day. So when the going gets tough, the tough get stylish.

Estilo Mum's solution to a sick day? DRESS UP!
If you have to be out, no point in looking like a train wreck. A comfy, stylish outfit consoles me throughout the day.

These ASH star studded, sequin, smoking slipper reminded me all day to keep that twinkle in my eye even when I felt like crud inside.

See the blue rubber below my feet? That's the park. We made it and it was a good time.

A big thank you to my mother-in-law who sent me the gift card I used to get these.

I absolutely adore them!

Get More Beauty Sleep in 2013

2007 Prada ad

A mother's greatest physical challenge is getting enough sleep; after a child is born, those lovely teenage years, and then the college years.  In between the ups and downs of every phase, we can not stop the clock or prevent grey hairs, but we can do whatever it takes to get that beauty sleep.

Great beauty sleep starts with a good mattress. My husband and I bought a Tempur Pedic mattress five years ago right before the birth of our first son. We went from a spring mattress to a memory foam mattress and it was amazing. I couldn't believe the difference in comfort and sleep.

Not the case anymore, my husband constantly complains of back aches he swears are brought on by the mattress. I'm sure it's true. We ruined the mattress when we moved to our new home and didn't have the right box spring for it. If a Tempur Pedic mattress is not level (hanging off a box spring), it ruins the mattress.

Nature's Sleep Memory Foam Mattress
So we're right back where we started. In need of a mattress.

Deal of the day!
Now's the time to get a great deal (68%-74% discount) on a mattress. Starting at $349 for twin to $699 for a California King Nature's Sleep Memory Foam Mattress.

What good is a wardrobe to die for if your face looks like a punching bag? Great style and beauty come from within. So get that beauty sleep. Studies show that continuous lack of sleep creates a bigger chance in someone to consume alcohol. But if you get your minimum 6 hours daily, the hours you spend sleeping will contribute to better skin and weight loss.

If your New Year's resolution is to lose weight, lose the eye bags, be healthier or simply enjoy life more, this is a good start.

First Outfit of 2013

California Winter Style
It's January 5th and I still don't need to wear more than a rabbit fur vest in California to keep me warm. I loved growing up East Coast, but nothing beats West Coast weather.

I attended my first event of 2013 yesterday, a 40th & 4th birthday bash. I actually chose my outfit to mix well with both the older crowd and the younger, more rambunctious peeps running around. And as the sun came down and the day got cooler, my fur vest was the perfect combo to keep me warm.

Outfit:
Elie Tahari Rabbit Fur Vest
Design Concept button down short sleeve shirt
Fade to Blue Skinny Jeans
ASH peep toe wedge

Accessories:
Kate Spade New York suede handbag
Rose Gold, four layer chain

Making It Happen in 2013

Runyon Canyon, Hollywood
1st Run of 2013 with my dog Coco (pug)

Everyone talks about New Year's resolutions at the beginning of a year. For me, it's a turn off. It's like saying, "I would like to fill in the blank, we'll see if it happens." Like a wish list. I don't believe in wish lists. I believe in making it happen.

How are you going to make it happen? As a mom, and Estilo Mum, my list of things to make happen are long but the trick I've found is to separate these items into short and long term goals. And drum roll please....really, really, wanting it badly. How badly do you want it?

Making it happen, requires a plan of action, whether it's losing weight, organizing your finances, creating more time for yourself or more dates with your husband. Put a plan of action into place and I guarantee you will reach your goals.

In 2012, it was getting my pre-baby body back after two years of trying on and off. I finally had it! I yearned to put on the cloths I had stored away 5 years ago in a gigantic box collecting dust. It was extraordinarily hard because like any goal you want to achieve it required a lot of sacrifice. But after 3 months of 5:30am workouts, five days a week, it happened. I got my body back. Now I'm in maintenance mode, which is much easier. Only three work-outs a week.

I'm not gloating, although it might seem like it. I'm being realistic. Achieving your goals in 2013 may be difficult, but you can Make It Happen! Where there's a will there's a way.

For 2013, this Estilo Mum will participate in her first Triathlon. I don't own a bike and rarely swim anymore, so this will be a huge undertaking for me, but my future holds a journey into the Iron Man so I've got to start somewhere.

What will you make happen in 2013?
